Later versions of the TEC-9 and AB-10 had a threaded upper receiver tube at the rear and a screw-on end cap to contain the bolt, recoil spring, and buffer plate even if removed from the lower receiver, solving the problem of lower receiver failure when using hot ammo. The most noticeable external difference between the TEC-9 and the later TEC-DC9 is that rings to hold the sling were moved from the side of the gun with the cocking handle to a removable stamped metal clip in the back of the gun. However, the AB-10 still accepted the larger capacity magazines of the pre-ban TEC-9 models, and were often acquired by users in place of the standard magazine.Tech entrepreneur Damien Patton was driving, and fled the state of Tennessee with the help of Christian music producer Jonathan David Brown, who was convicted of conspiracy and accessory, and two counts of perjury, in 1992. Brown also lost on appeal to the Sixth Circuit in 1995.Retrieved May 15, 2020. CS1 maint: archived copy as title ( link ) Iola, Wisconsin: Gun Digest Books. p. 139. ISBN 978-1-4402-2672-4. For the rapper whose stage name is taken from it, see Tech N9ne. They were developed by Intratec, an American subsidiary of the Swedish firearms manufacturer Interdynamic AB. Introduced in 1984, the TEC-9 was made of inexpensive molded polymers and a mixture of stamped and milled steel parts. The simple design of the gun made it easy to repair and modify. The TEC-9 developed a negative reputation for its association with organized crime, street gangs and mass shootings in the 1990s. Most notably it was used during the 101 California Street shooting and the Columbine High School massacre. However, it was a commercial success, with over 250,000 being sold.Still, the design was deemed too easy to convert to an automatic weapon. Due to this, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) forced Interdynamic USA to redesign the firearm into a closed-bolt system, which was harder to convert to automatic weapon. This design only allows for 115 grain 9mm ammunition, and if a heavier grain ammunition or hot loads are used, the plastic lower receiver will fail or crack, rendering the firearm unusable.

The TEC-9 offered firepower approaching or exceeding that of military-type weapons such as the AK-47 and the Colt AR-15. Its use of staggered, double-column ammunition magazines is associated with military or law enforcement, not civilian shooting requirements. Even large capacity, commercially available semi-automatic pistols such as the Glock 17 cannot match the firepower of the TEC-9. For example, the TEC-9 is capable of being hidden under a car seat, in a duffel bag, or slung under a jacket. No other weapon available had more firepower than the TEC-9, while remaining concealable in a briefcase. It also helps to stabilize the weapon during rapid firing. If discharged rapidly using a spray fire technique (an experienced shooter can empty a 32-round magazine in seconds), the TEC-9 can be used very effectively in close quarters against 5 to 10 individuals. The TEC-9's barrel is threaded to accept accessories such as a silencer or barrel extension. No one interested in using the TEC-9 for self-defense or recreation would be interested in a silencer; if they were, it would indicate a criminal purpose. It is too awkward and inaccurate a weapon for even the most informal target shooting. Its weight, dimensions, and ergonomics make it a poor choice for the instinctive way that people aim when shooting in self-defense. Its crude sights, heavy weight, and gritty trigger pull make precisely aimed shots difficult for even experienced shooters. The typical home defense scenario does not require more than the 6-10 round capacity of an ordinary revolver or semi-automatic pistol. While such ammunition is required for military use because of its penetrative power, this same feature makes it generally unsuitable for civilian or law enforcement self-defense purposes. A fully jacketed bullet will exit a human being and keep on moving -- even continued through a wall -- and may strike an innocent bystander. Assistant Police Chief Sanders testified that.

With deadly efficiency, Ferri killed eight people and wounded six more in a matter of minutes. Plaintiff MICHELLE SCULLY was not only shot and permanently wounded during Ferri’s rampage, she was forced to suffer the even crueler fate of witnessing her husband John’s death as he tried to shield her from flying bullets. Although it has been marketed under various names -- the KG-9, the KG-99, the TEC-9, and the TEC-DC9 -- and by various companies owned and operated by the Garcia family, the basic design of the weapon has remained virtually unchanged. The company decided to manufacture the KG-9 because of the growing market for military style guns in the United States.Otherwise, the design remained essentially unchanged. The TEC-9 was substantially identical to the KG-99, with just a few cosmetic changes. The brochure depicted a smoking target of a human being shot dozens of times through the head and the heart in what appears to be a fusillade of automatic weapons fire. In April 1987, Intratec was sued by the Estate of David Bengston in Connecticut state court. Navegar continued to manufacture and market the TEC-9, and continued to do business as Intratec. Intratec U.S.A. declared bankruptcy in 1989, with the Bengston and Alicki lawsuits as its only significant liabilities. Machine pistols are most effective against multiple targets in close quarters, where precisely aimed shots are not as important as a large volume of fire. While it lacks a fully automatic rate of fire, its 32-round magazine can be emptied in seconds. The unique destructive capacity of assault weapons like the TEC-9 makes them particularly attractive to certain criminals, gang members, and drug dealers. The prior involvement of assault weapons in mass killings like the Stockton schoolyard shooting made it foreseeable -- if not inevitable -- that such weapons would eventually be used in other mass shootings like Ferri’s assault on 101 California.

In May 1990, the United States Senate voted to ban the manufacture of the TEC-9, and the State of New Jersey enacted legislation banning its sale within the state. In other words, letting people know that it looked like this firearm was going to be disallowed to be sold, so get it now while you still can. Mr. Garcia explained to Mr. Solo that. Not changing the gun, but I guess to see if there was any problem in the sales thereafter with just renaming the gun into that area. Navegar challenged the law in Connecticut state court.Manufacturers usually utilize distributors in several states to market their weapons to dealers located throughout the country. Federal firearms dealers, in turn, often sell guns to other dealers across state lines.Mr. Garcia himself has previously testified. And it goes back and forth every which way you can think of... The result of this exception is a largely uncontrolled market in privately-owned firearms. The proliferation of gun shows also facilitates the transfer of guns from dealers to individuals and between private individuals. Purchasers often travel to adjacent states that have no restrictions on the sale or possession of particular weapons. Although proof of in-state identification is needed to purchase a handgun, it is often not difficult in such states to obtain a driver’s license or other in-state identification to use to make a purchase. This was the method chosen by Ferri to purchase the TEC-9 assault pistols used in the massacre at 101 California Street. Because gun show sales are difficult to police, many gun show exhibitors do not comply with the firearms laws, making gun shows a significant contributor to the illegal traffic in firearms. The theft of firearms from individual owners and licensed dealers is also a lucrative source of firearms for illegal traffic. Navegar was not surprised to learn that sales of the TEC-DC9 to California residents did in fact take place, from both within and without the state.

But there were lots of them, more than a couple dozen. They were all over the place. Just two weeks before his assault on 101 California Street, Ferri went shooting in the desert with acquaintance named Michael Spivak. Mr. Spivak told police investigators that. He laughed and kept shooting. In May 1989, Cox Newspapers published a widely-publicized study of BATF tracing data for the period January 1988 through March 1989. The study determined that assault weapons accounted or 10% of the weapons traced, even though they represented only about 0.5% of the firearms in circulation at that time. On that basis, the report concluded that assault weapons were approximately 1% of the firearms in circulation at that time, they accounted for 8% of the weapons traced. The TEC-9 was the assault weapon most frequently traced by the ATF in each year from 1990 through 1993, comprising 24% to 26% of all assault weapons traced. A study of 33 major metropolitan areas also determined that the TEC-9 accounted for 24% of all assault weapons seized in 1990 and 1991 (including those that were not traced by BATF), and 42% of all assault pistols seized. In the year after Mr. Garcia took the business back from his father, production of the TEC-9 increased by 250%. In May 1989, the Cox study was published, identifying the TEC-9 as the assault weapon most frequently traced to crime, and the gun of choice of drug gangs and organized crime -- reports that were heard by Mr. Garcia. Confronted with these allegations by the press, Mr. Garcia said that: But I’m not responsible for that. It just has that advertising tingle to it. Hey, it’s talked about, it’s read about, the media write about it. That generates more sales for me. It might sound cold and cruel, but I’m sales oriented. The AWCA contained a legislative finding and declaration that: Navegar hired a lobbying firm to oppose the legislation.

In 2001, Intratec went bankrupt, and the AB-10 was discontinued. The TEC-9 was made of inexpensive molded polymers and a mixture of stamped and milled steel parts.Because of this, the ATF forced Interdynamic to redesign it into a closed-bolt system, which was harder to convert to full-auto. This variant was called the KG-99. It made frequent appearances on Miami Vice, where it was legally converted to full-auto by Title II manufacturers. The TEC-9 was produced from 1985 to 1994.The most noticeable external difference between the TEC-9 and the later TEC-DC9 is that rings to hold the sling were moved from the side of the gun with the cocking handle, to a removable stamped metal clip in the back of the gun. The TEC-9 and TEC-DC9 are otherwise identical. However, it accepted the high capacity magazines of the pre-ban models.California amended its 1989 Roberti-Roos Assault Weapons Control Act (AWCA) later in 1999, effective January 2000, to ban firearms having features such as barrel shrouds. In that same year, the company went out of business and production of the AB-10 model ceased. Now under the control of Carlos Garcia, the KG-99 was renamed to the TEC-9. The two guns are exactly the same. One change was made, the sling lugs were moved to the top of the gun. This model lacked the barrel shroud and threaded barrel specifically prohibited and was sold with 10-round magazines. However, the gun was also often sold with Pre-Ban 32-round magazines.

30 carbine cartridge is approximately 27% more powerful than its parent cartridge. However, the carbine is twice as powerful as the.45ACP caliber submachine guns in common use at the time. Therefore, soldiers armed with the carbine can carry much more ammunition than those armed with a Tommy gun. This was the first major use of this type of primer in a military firearm. The M1 carbine has a maximum effective range of 300 yards (270 m).This field adaptation was never officially approved, but proved an efficient method to supply extra ammunition in combat. The loaded 30-round magazine would typically cant (impairing feed reliability) or even fall out, which helps explain why the 30-round magazines have a poor reliability record (they are also more prone to damage due to their added length and weight when loaded as thin steel is used to make them). Thus early production M1 carbines must be fitted with the type IV magazine catch used on the M2 carbine (and late production M1 carbines) if they are to be used with 30-round magazines. After the war, the bayonet lug was added to many M1 carbines during the arsenal refurbishing process. By the start of the Korean War, the bayonet lug-equipped M1 was standard issue. It is now rare to find an original M1 carbine without the bayonet lug. The M1 carbine mounts the standard M4 bayonet, which was based on the earlier M3 fighting knife and formed the basis for the later M5, M6 and M7 bayonet -knives.It was fired with the.30 caliber carbine M6 Grenade Blank cartridge to launch 22 mm rifle grenades. Stress from firing rifle grenades would eventually crack the carbine's stock. This made it a type of emergency-issue weapon.Soldier in foreground is armed with an M1 carbine. The largest producer was the Inland division of General Motors, but many others were made by contractors as diverse as IBM, the Underwood Typewriter Company, and Rock-Ola Manufacturing Corporation.

The soldier on the far right is holding an M1 carbine Many soldiers found the rifle slid off the shoulder unless slung diagonally across the back, where it prevented the wearing of standard field packs and haversacks.Winchester, after Williams' release, had hired Williams on the strength of recommendations of firearms industry leaders and hoped Williams would be able to complete various designs left unfinished by Ed Browning, including the Winchester.30-06 M2 rifle. Williams incorporated his short-stroke piston in the existing design. After the Marine Corps semi-automatic rifle trials in 1940, Browning's rear-locking tilting bolt design proved unreliable in sandy conditions. As a result, the rifle was redesigned to incorporate a Garand-style rotating bolt and operating rod, retaining Williams' short-stroke piston. By May 1941, Williams had shaved the M2 rifle prototype from about 9.5 lb (4.3 kg) to a mere 7.5 lb (3.4 kg).Williams participated in the finishing of this prototype. The second prototype competed successfully against all remaining carbine candidates in September 1941, and Winchester was notified of their success the very next month. Standardization as the M1 carbine was approved on October 22, 1941. This story was the loose basis for the 1952 movie Carbine Williams starring James Stewart. Contrary to the movie, Williams had little to do with the carbine's development, with the exception of his short-stroke gas piston design. Williams worked on his own design apart from the other Winchester staff, but it was not ready for testing until December 1941, two months after the Winchester M1 carbine had been adopted and type-classified.Note: original flip sight and push button safety. But they are so few in number that no general conclusion can be drawn from them. These weapons began to be replaced by the M16 in 1964, and they were generally out of service by 1970s, although they were used in limited numbers by U.S. troops and security personnel until the fall of Saigon in 1975. They were used by every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. Elements of the New People's Army and Islamic Secessionist movement value the carbine as a lightweight weapon and preferred choice for mountain and ambush operations.Cienfuegos' carbine is on display in the Museum of the Revolution (Cuba). Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Few contractors made all the parts for carbines bearing their names: some makers bought parts from other major contractors or sub-contracted minor parts to companies like Marlin Firearms or Auto-Ordnance. Parts by all makers were required to be interchangeable. Often one company would get ahead or behind in production and parts would be shipped from one company to the other to help them catch up on their quota. When receivers were shipped for this purpose the manufacturers would often mark them for both companies. Many carbines were refurbished at several arsenals after the war, with many parts interchanged from original maker carbines. These were major factors in the United States military decision to adopt the M1 carbine, especially when considering the vast numbers of weapons and ammunition manufactured and transported by the United States during World War II.September 20, 1950. The M1 carbine in the foreground has the bayonet mounted. On 26 October 1944, in response to the Germans' widespread use of automatic weapons, especially the Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifle, the select-fire M2 carbine was introduced, along with a new 30-round magazine. Although actual M2 production began late in the war (April 1945), U.S. Ordnance issued conversion-part kits to allow field conversion of semi-auto M1 carbines to the selective-fire M2 configuration. The M3 sight has a longer effective range than its predecessor, about 125 yards (114 meters). However, it still required the user to carry a heavy backpack-mounted battery pack to power the scope and infrared light. They were used primarily in static defensive positions in Korea to locate troops attempting to infiltrate in darkness.Note: 30-round magazine, stock pouch for two 15-round Magazine and grenade launcher. At this time, we no longer accept orders over the phone. The procession of the parts and the weapon that can be converted is worth a few years in Club Fed.The only reason the M1 carbine is legal to possess is that the M1 carbine came first. Had the M2 carbine predated the M1 carbine, then M1 carbine or receiver would have been classified as a machine gun because it would be an M2 carbine or receiver less the M2 parts.

September 18, 1981 Inland production of M1A1 carbines was interspersed with Inland production of M1 carbines with the standard stock. Stocks were often swapped out as carbines were refurbished at arsenals. An original Inland carbine with an original M1A1 stock is rare today.A more common name for this type of stock is an underfolder. Fully automatic capability was incorporated into the design of the M2 (an improved, selective-fire version of the M1), introduced in 1944. The M2 featured the late M1 improvements to the rear sight, addition of a bayonet lug, and other minor changes.Inland was awarded a contract for 500 T4 carbines in September 1944. Although the conversion was seen as satisfactory, the heavier 30-round magazineThe slide, sear, and stock design also had to be modified. The military issued field conversion kits (T17 and T18) to convert an M1 to an M2. Legally a carbine marked M2 is always a machine gun for national firearms registry purposes.A more detailed analysis showed however that most troops who complained actually tended to run low on ammo, because they fired their M2 on fully automatic too soon. Troops who fired their guns on semi-automatic at distance generally complained less about the M2's effectiveness. Generally, the more seasoned troops used the latter approach. The carbine was usually given to second line troops (administrative, support, etc.), who had little combat experience and also did not have much training in small-unit tactics, but who usually had to engage the enemy at some critical moment, like a breakthrough or ambush. Marshall noted that almost all killing shots with carbines in Korea were at ranges of 50 yards or less. It was unsurprising therefore that the M2 was a preferred weapon for night patrols. It was initially used with the M1 sniperscope, and an active infrared sight, and saw action in 1945 with the Army during the invasion of Okinawa.

Before the M3 carbine and M1 sniperscope were type-classified, they were known as the T3 and T120, respectively. The system continued to be developed, and by the time of the Korean War, the M3 carbine was used with the M3 sniperscope. In the later stages of the Korean War, an improved version of the M3 carbine, with a revised mount, a forward pistol grip, and a new M3 sniperscope design was used in the latter stages of Korea and briefly in Vietnam. The M3 sniperscope had a large active infrared spotlight mounted on top of the scope body itself, allowing use in the prone position. They did not catch on in competition against the Ruger Mini-14 in both the police and civilian markets. The Ingram SAM rifles are occasionally found on auction sites for collectors. Some companies used a combination of original USGI and new commercial parts, while others manufactured entire firearms from new parts, which may or may not be of the same quality as the originals. These copies were marketed to the general public and police agencies but were not made for or used by the U.S. military. The original Auto-Ordnance had produced various parts for IBM carbine production during World War II, but did not manufacture complete carbines until the introduction of this replica. The AOM110 and AOM120 models (no longer produced) featured birch stocks and handguards, Parkerized receivers, flip-style rear sights and barrel bands without bayonet lugs. Inland Manufacturing, LLC is a private entity that is producing reproductions of the M1 Carbine and M1A1 Paratrooper models that were built by the original Inland Division of General Motors from 1941 to 1945. The new Inland M1 carbines feature many of the same characteristics of the original Inland Carbines and are manufactured in the USA. A 30-round mag catch was utilized to allow high-capacity magazines.Manufactured replacement parts for the same carbines. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources.

The semi-automatic only Thompson Model 1927 is considered a machine gun because the receiver is from the earlier Thompson Model 1921 sub-machine gun and merely installing Model 1921 parts into the Model 1927 will make it a select fire sub-machine gun. It'll be the whiz when they throw away the keys. 10 years and a huge fine. Sportsmans guide had some M2 parts for sale years ago. The hand guard is lined with multiple Picatinny rails for the addition of attachments such as grips, sights, flashlights, and lasers. Featuring a compact bullpup design with an integrated reflex sight and fully ambidextrous controls, the P90 is an unconventional weapon with a futuristic appearance. In the United States, the P90 is in use with over 200 law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service. Created for use in very confined spaces, it is optimally suited both for active engagement of individual targets, and for personal defense.Tremendously reliable, with maximum safety for the user, easy to handle, modular, extremely accurate and extraordinarily easy to control when firing. Despite its integrated silencer element, it has the same length and shape as an unsilenced submachine gun.

Unlike most conventional silenced submachine guns, it fires standard ammunition types with the same effect. The use of special subsonic ammunition is not necessary. The integrated silencer element suppresses the muzzle flash extremely effectively, as a result of which the weapon is also excellent for night operations using low-light amplifiers. No wonder the MP5SD is one of the most accurate silenced submachine guns of its type. Developed as a genuine personal defense weapon, it far exceeds the NATO requirements profile. The MP7 is extremely compact, lightweight, can be used in very confined spaces, and is practically recoil-free. It can be carried continuously, making it the ideal personal weapon for the soldier of today. Those who carry it will be suitably armed for the broadest range of operations. Comparing the calibers, the penetration and terminal effects of the 4.6 mm x 30 cartridge are several times those of the standardized 9 mm x 19 cartridges. By way of illustration: The new high-performance caliber penetrates the NATO CRISAT TARGET (1.6 mm titanium and 20 layers of Kevlar) even at 200 m. One fundamental requirement: At the same time, the risk of overpenetration is reduced to a minimum. This myth stems from a US Army training film portraying the M3 as more accurate than its counterparts. This system allows the shooter to recover faster, for quicker and more accurate sequential shots. An extremely low bore axis compliments the KRISS Super V Recoil Mitigation System by aligning the barrel with the user’s arm. This allows the user's body to work together with the KRISS Super V System for maximum control. These design features, rare in submachine guns, were chosen to enhance the safety of the user and to have a more reliable firearm. It features the SIG Sauer short stroke push-rod gas system to reduce the recoil and improve the reliability of the weapon.

This means the bolt remains to the rear when the weapon is cocked, and on pulling the trigger the bolt moves forward under spring pressure, stripping the round from the magazine, chambering it and firing the weapon all in the same movement. There is no breech locking mechanism, the rearward movement of the bolt caused by the recoil impulse is arrested only by the mainspring and the bolt's inertia. The basic operating principles were like those of the German MP40, Russian PPSh-41, US M3 submachine gun and numerous other designs. These shared similar attributes and faults; they were simple and cheap to manufacture, and put an automatic weapon into the hands of soldiers, greatly increasing the short-range firepower of the infantry, especially when the main infantry weapon was a bolt-action rifle capable of only around 15 rounds per minute and not suited for short-range combat. However, the open-bolt firing mechanism, short barrel, and use of pistol ammunition severely restricted accuracy, with an effective range of around 100m. It was a common sight in the media of the time, being used by both law enforcement officers and criminals. It has since gained popularity among civilian collectors for its historical significance. It has considerable significance in popular culture, especially in works about the Prohibition era and World War II and is among the best-known firearms in history. It has since gained popularity among civilian collectors for its historical significance. It has considerable significance in popular culture, especially in works about the Prohibition era and World War II and is among the best-known firearms in history. The flip-up adjustable Lyman rear sight was replaced with a fixed L sight. Late M1s had triangular guard wings added to the rear L sight, which were standardized on the M1A1. The slots adjoining the magazine well allowing the use of a drum magazine were removed.

The Cutts compensator, barrel cooling fins, and Blish lock were omitted while the buttstock was permanently affixed. Late production M1 stocks were fitted with reinforcing bolts and washers to prevent splitting of the stock where it attached to the receiver. The British had used improvised bolts or wood screws to reinforce M1928 stocks. The M1 reinforcing bolt and washer were carried over to the M1A1 and retrofitted to many of the M1928A1s in U.S. and British service. The modular fiber-reinforced polymer receiver guarantees the necessary ruggedness with minimized overall weight. As a typical member of the HK family of weapons, the UMP is a highly effective, economical alternative for military and law enforcement applications. Smaller variants are often considered to be machine pistols. The Uzi was one of the first weapons to use a telescoping bolt design which allows the magazine to be housed in the pistol grip for a shorter weapon. The first Uzi submachine gun was designed by Major Uziel Gal in the late 1940s. The prototype was finished in 1950. First introduced to IDF special forces in 1954, the weapon was placed into general issue two years later. The Uzi has found use as a personal defense weapon by rear-echelon troops, officers, artillery troops and tankers, as well as a frontline weapon by elite light infantry assault forces. The Uzi has been exported to over 90 countries. Over its service lifetime, it has been manufactured by Israel Military Industries, FN Herstal, and other manufacturers. From the 1960s through the 1980s, more Uzi submachine guns were sold to more military, law enforcement and security markets than any other submachine gun ever made. Since then, it’s grown to be perhaps the most popular assault rifle, with at least 75 million units built. This rifle also has a long history with political, revolutionary, and terrorist movements. It started as a pivotal part of the Soviet Army following World War II.

Check out the sturdier end of the Racing series and the Rapid Red wheels We'll take you through the Fulcrum range from the functional, inexpensive Racing 7s right up to the super go-faster Speed 55 wheels. This is simply an overview of the range to tell you what's what and help you decide what's most suitable for you. They're great tyres, but Fulcrum really needs to tweak the design for greater flexibility. Fulcrum's website in fact no longer lists the rim-brake Racing 7 at all, so the Racing 6 looks to effectively replace that model in the range. Like the Racing 7, the rims are 23mm wide (17mm internal) and slightly deeper on the rear wheel: 27.5mm v 24.5mm up front. These are therefore more road-orientated than the Racing 7 DB. As with other disc-braked, tubeless-compatible Fulcrum road wheels, those tyres will have to be Schwalbe if you're going tubeless. The idea is to improve aerodynamics and “increase torsional and lateral stiffness compared with a conventional profile, for improved high speed stability.” Fulcrum says that this limits the loss of rim tension when you pedal. Fast and durable, a great all-rounder.” Like most of Fulcrum's disc-brake wheels it uses what Fulcrum calls Monoblock Hub For Disc tech, in which stiffening ribs inside the hub convey braking forces to the tangential drive-side spokes to reduce twist on the rotor side.

Enjoy the luxury of home delivery and never miss an issue If there’s any movement at all, then you’re bearings need adjusting. If you don’t do this, then you’ll soon find yourself having to replace your bearings rather than just adjust them. Once the bolt is unscrewed, rotate the collar clockwise, continually moving the wheel from side to side to check for play, until any side to side movement in the wheel is completely eliminated. However don’t be tempted to tighten the collar too far as this will apply too much pre-load, causing the bearings to wear out quicker and creating resistance that will slow you down. Use the special holder tool to hold the spoke still during the operation. 4 5 6 When the nipple is loosened, proceed manually to extract the spoke from the flange of the hub. If it is necessary to replace the nipple as well, to extract it from the rim you first have to disassemble the valve. Loosen the closure cap. 7 8 9 Loosen the sealing ring. Extract the valve. Remove the nipple from the valve hole of the rim. Tighten the magnet-attracting insert on the nipple. 10 11 12 Completely tighten the insert on the nipple to prevent it from sliding out while being drawn inside the rim.

The combination makes for a wheelset that's only slightly lighter than the Rapid Red 5 at 1,740g, but should afford a better ride thanks to the rim providing a little more tyre volume. The 1,760g claimed weight for a 700C pair is decent for wheels with wide aluminium rims, and you can have them with standard Shimano 11-speed freehub body or SRAM XDr body. The latest version gets an upgrade to rims with 17mm internal width to accommodate wider tyres. Fulcrum claims these are 30% lighter, 40% more resistant, and 50% smoother than standard steel bearings. They feature 2Way-Fit, 6082 T6 aluminium rims, hubs with carbon-fibre centre sections, CULT ceramic bearings, plasma-treated freehub body and weigh a claimed 1,475g. The rear rim is 30mm deep, the front 27mm and both have 17mm internal width. The rims are made from high-strength 6082 T6 aluminium, joined to the hubs with aluminium spokes, and like the rim-brake version they roll on USB ceramic bearings. The wheelset has a claimed weight of just 1,358g but the pair's supposed to cost a hefty ?1,799.99. A pair weighs just 1,440g, which makes them among the lightest disc-brake wheels, but they're not exactly cheap. There are five models of spoked wheel, plus the Speed 360 one-piece disc rear wheel. They spin up effortlessly, handle well on windy days and weigh just 1,420g a pair. The only thing not to like is the price. At a claimed 1,470g they don't surrender much to the Speed 40C wheels though we'd expect them to be a bit more susceptible to getting knocked off course in side-winds. Read all about them in our news story. New stopping tech meets traditional tyres will set you back ? 2,149.99 and the pair is claimed to weigh 1395g. They have 2Way-Fit carbon fibre rims for tubeless compatibility. That's the most obvious difference between the Wind and Speed wheels; the latter have 17mm rims, so the Wind wheels reflect the trend to fatter tyres. In fact Fulcrum says these wheels will take tyres up to 50mm wide, which opens up the possibility of using them on some gnarly-looking monstercross bikes as well as various go-faster applications. Claimed weight is 1,620g. The extra rim depth costs just 60g over the Wind 40DB for a claimed weight of 1,680g.

The development of this wheelset was somewhat atypical in that it came about not only via countless hours in the lab but also through collaboration with top professional riders, a practice generally reserved only for those products sitting at the pinnacle of the range. The development approach for the Red Power HP brought forth premium results for a lower range wheelset and its success has been due in large part to the collaboration between engineers and athletes from the Merida Multivan team. However, Fulcrum is never happy to settle for past success and strives to push the limits of performance and reliability always further. With this spirit in mind, the Red Power HP has been revisited and its versatility and performance improved. The new version of the Red Power HP boasts a whopping 23C rim that measures 28.5 mm in width! What was previously a 19C design is now a 23C design and handling, stability and comfort are all positively impacted by this rather large improvement. Taking into account the great reaction to its predecessor, improvements upon such a wheel are something to be felt. Its new aluminum rim incorporates a bit of structural reinforcement in the form of a sleeve joint, thus improving the integrity of the wheel on even the toughest terrain. Just as the version before it, the new Red Power HP wheels are great examples of both versatility and compatibility. The rear hub has been designed in a way to be compatible with all standards and drivetrains without having to change the main body. This means that you will need wheels that have the same diameter rim, the same hub width and the same axle diameter as the existing wheels on your bike. The exception to this is bikes that are specifically designed to work with both 29” and 27.5” plus sized wheels. Wider rims are best suited to wider tyres. Bikes with Boost hub spacing have more room for wide tyres. While all rim widths for a specific rim size will fit your bike wider tyres may not.

These work with conventional dropouts similar to those found on road bikes. Many mountain bikes now use thru axles (TA) for improved handling. Traditional 9mm QR axles are found on affordable hardtails and MTBs with rigid forks. Many high-end mountain bikes now use the wider Boost axle standard which is 110mm. Downhill hubs with 20mm axles have traditionally used the 110mm hub spacing. New Boost downhill hubs use the same hub width and axle diameter but the hub flanges are wider so the brake rotor sits in a different position. The Boost standard for rear hubs is wider at 148mm. Downhill bikes tend to have even wider hubs. 150mm is a common DH hub width but there is also the new 157mm Super Boost standard that is found on some Downhill bikes. Non-disc wheels are not compatible with disc brakes. There are two ways of mounting discs to your wheel. If you want to use your existing disc rotors, then look for a wheel that has the same mounting system. There are four main types of freehub for mountain bike wheels, each is designed for a specific type of rear cassette. Cannondale use their Ai (Asymmetric Integration) system on many of their new full-sus MTBs. This means that the rim sits in a different position to a standard wheel, so you will have to either upgrade to a compatible Ai wheel or get a standard wheel adjusted by a professional wheel builder. The rear cassette is attached to the freehub body. Rotates around the axle, which is an external component attached to the fork or frame. The exact same wheel threaded in a different pattern can produce a completely different ride character. The bit the tyre sits on. Straight-pull spokes have no bend and, as they are often proprietary to the wheel they are made for, are less readily available in bike shops. Tubeless sealant will self-repair small punctures. If it gets a wobble, usually caused by the spokes unequally going out of tension, it is out of true. There are two types of valve for bikes.

I'm guessing I'll need a new axle but damned if I can find any information I can't tell if this is a generic or specific to Red XL. Seems to be a Fulcrum thing that there's a threaded collar with a pinch bolt. Do you know the torque that the collar is supposed to be done up to. It all looks user serviceable anyway. Then the cap on the non-disc rests inside that threaded collar and the other side appears fixed. And the non-disc cap appears to be held in place by.nothing other than fork axle tension. So apart from the clearance between the collar and axle that it rests in potentially being off, what fork are you running? I can't tell if this is a generic or specific to Red XL. I stripped my bike today and realised my forks knock slightly when pressed side to side.Still doesn't solve the rear hub, which had play, was tightened, play returned, eventually a drop of loctite.Bearings being shot and the rear locknut (RM0-024) not being tightened (not is LH thread) were discussed. TBH from the diagram I can't see how the setup prevents sealed bearings from being crushed as the axle appears to slide in vs.Attached a parts diagram from 2013, not sure what year yours are. If the collar is fixed, and you are sure it is fixed yet movement develops afterwards then IMO it indicates something is wrong with the bearings.

So I would expect the collar only contacts the outer race of the bearings, and therefore should be no issue if it does. Originally introduced under the Red.Originally introduced under the Red Power XL name, this wheelset surprised riders the world over for its sturdy and reliable build that guaranteed continued performance ride after ride no matter the conditions. Fulcrum engineers then set about to do what they do best, improve upon already great wheelsets, and in doing so ushered in the Red Power HP.

Schrader valves are the same as those on car tyres while Presta valves are narrower bike specific valves designed for high air pressures. Valves are attached to the rim in tubeless set ups or included with the inner tube on traditional wheel setups. A quick release skewer fits through the wheel and allows you to quickly change the wheel. Lighter wheels make climbing and accelerating easier, stronger wheels will allow you to ride more challenging terrain, and wider rims offer better support for the tyres. Upgrading to a tubeless wheelset will make punctures a thing of the past. Cross country (XC) wheels are the lightest, for rapid climbing, while downhill (DH) wheels are the strongest, for hard-charging over very rough terrain. Trail wheels are the best all-rounders and offer a great balance between lightweight and strength. Enduro wheels are nearly as strong as DH wheels while still being lightweight enough for efficient climbing. The rim is also the part of the wheel where weight makes the biggest difference. This is because the rim is the part of the wheel that is furthest from the centre. It is here that the rotational effects of weight are most noticeable. This is why rim weight and strength have such a big effect on the way that the wheel performs. Higher-end alloy wheels are made from better quality alloy making them stronger and lighter. These wheels also have welded seams which are much stronger than the rims with pinned seams found on more affordable hoops. If you want the lightest and strongest wheels, then carbon fibre rims are the way to go. Wide rims allow you to run wider tyres for more grip. While narrow rims are lighter weight, wider rims make up for this by offering significant performance advantages. The side-on pressure generated when you lean hard into a turn will tend to make the tyre squirm unsettling the bike. This is even more noticeable on a tubeless set up as there is no inner tube to add support.

A wider rim will allow you to benefit from riding with the lower tyre pressures that offer more grip, without the tyre squirming around under you in the corners. This means that your tyre will conform to the ground better to give you a smoother ride on rough terrain and more grip in the corners. Also, with tubeless sealant added to the tyre, you will find that you get far fewer punctures. This means that you can either choose to run them with inner-tubes or as a tubeless set-up. Some tubeless wheels are supplied with the tape and valves. The tape may be fitted too. The axle fits through the hub allowing the wheel to spin freely on the bearings that sit inside the hub. The spokes are attached to flanges on the hub body. Some top-of-the-range wheels may have carbon fibre composite hub bodies. The freehub body can be made from steel or aluminium. Aluminium is lighter but steel is stronger which prevents the hub splines being chewed up under high load. Most mid to high-end wheel hubs spin on sealed cartridge bearings. Steel balls or needles rotate in a single cartridge that is reliable and can easily be replaced when worn out. Here loose ball bearings sit between a cup in the hub and a cone shaped washer. This is the splined metal tube that the cassette sits on and rotates on its own set of bearings. A ratchet and spring-loaded pawl mechanism engages when you are pedalling and releases when you stop pedalling so that you can coast. There are several different systems available with different numbers of pawls and teeth on the ratchet. This includes hub width, axle type and disc brakes rotor type, as well as rim diameter. Butted and double butted spokes are lighter than regular spokes but are just as strong. Some wheels, from brands like Mavic, may have aero bladed aluminium alloy spokes. Traditional J-bend spokes are most common, but straight-pull spokes are a little stronger. Wheel Lacing patterns also vary and have different properties.

Wheels with cross lacing tend to be stronger while straight lacing saves weight. The rear cassette is attached to the freehub body. Rotates around the axle, which is an external component attached to the fork or frame. The exact same wheel threaded in a different pattern can produce a completely different ride character. We took all the experience we gained building race-winning bikes for the Enduro World Series, and condensed it into a bike that'll inspire you to do more.

Careful tube profiling, Boost 148 rear axle spacing and a tapered head tube give this frame a rigidity that belies its svelte appearance, so that you can rely on it to transfer every watt of pedal power into forward motion and respond instantly to steering input. C:62 carbon and our design team's long experience of working with this amazing material ensure that it's got the durability and strength to stay the course, too. But we didn't stop there. Smooth-rolling Fulcrum 29er wheels and big-volume Maxxis tyres give you the grip you'll need to tame any mountain trail, whether up or down. Powerful Magura hydraulic disc brakes help keep your speed in check, and Sram's legendary Eagle 1x12 transmission gives you the range you need to tackle any climb or descent. Topped off with a remote dropper post for those particularly tricky steep chutes, it's got ride-anywhere versatility written all over it. Actually, it hasn't - our design team wouldn't let us. But, as a Stereo 150 C:62 Race 29 rider you'll just know: this bike rocks. A good start is to ask CUBE engineers to do the seemingly impossible and build a bike that climbs almost as well as it descends. The result is the Stereo 150 29's elegantly sculpted C:62 carbon frame. The clean lines, rocker cover and trunnion-mount shock are designed to combine efficiency, stability and intuitive handling. Boost 148 rear axle spacing works together with the tapered head tube and oversized down tube to deliver unparalleled steering precision and pedal input. ISCG05 tabs for a chain guide are standard, while short chain stays ensure agile handling and, in combination with the 75.5-degree seat tube, provide efficient climbing. The low standover and head tube specifically designed for a 160mm fork add the confidence, control and precision you need for sure-footed descending. Jack of all trades? We prefer to think it's master of them all.

Due to these unfortunate high costs, you might be better off buying an actual Colt M-16 lower. So does the second. Your grinning uncontrollably from ear to ear.Honestly, no, not much. But do YOU ever need it. If your foxhole is being overrun, I can see needing to flip the switch. But frankly, I’ve never seen a foxhole, let alone been in one awaiting imminent human wave assault. Nor have I needed to clear a room in a combat zone or needed fire superiority to break an ambush. In that same real-world, there is just very likely little chance you will need to lay down large volumes of fully automatic fire. Options are limitless. Prices are thankfully cheap. Ammo is prevalent (for the time being).Full-auto is exhilarating and an incredible amount of fun. But again, not doing it legally is unthinkable. Let the author know with a 5 star rating. Americans could own anything they wanted until Congress feared the WW1 veterans and had the 1934 NFA enacted. We need to continue to vote OUT all those who would work to dismantle and destroy the Constitution and Bill of Rights and work to ensure their ilk NEVER has a say in causing the kind of grief we deal with today!! But as the saying goes it is about the MOST fun you can have with your clothes on. Trust me. I have plenty of experience in both categories.I have a BFSIII and love it. Great for double tap, or suppressive fire. Love that I now have a legal 3rd position. Amazon Has An ILLEGAL Full Auto Conversion. DO NOT BUY.

The original M16 rifle was a 5.56mm automatic rifle with a 20-round magazine.Springfield Armory's T44E4 and heavier T44E5 were essentially updated versions of the M1 chambered for the new 7.62 mm round, while Fabrique Nationale submitted their FN FAL as the T48.The smaller caliber meant that it could be controlled in autofire due to the reduced recoil. Being almost one-third the weight of the.30 meant that the soldier could sustain fire for longer with the same load. Due to design innovations, the AR-15 could fire 600 to 700 rounds a minute with an extremely low jamming rate. The resulting study recommended adopting a lightweight rifle like the AR-15. The South Vietnam soldiers issued glowing reports of the weapon's reliability, recording zero broken parts while firing 80,000 rounds in one stage of testing, and requiring only two replacement parts for the 1,000 weapons over the entire course of testing.Other users included Army Airborne units in Vietnam and some units affiliated with the Central Intelligence Agency. As more units adopted the AR-15, Secretary of the Army Cyrus Vance ordered an investigation into why the weapon had been rejected by the Army.

Secretary McNamara designated the Army as the procurer for the weapon with the Department, which allowed the Army ordnance establishment to modify the weapon as they wished. The air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle was made of steel, aluminum alloy and composite plastics, truly cutting-edge for the time. Designed with full and semi-automatic capabilities, the weapon initially did not respond well to wet and dirty conditions, sometimes even jamming in combat. In the summer of 1961, General LeMay was promoted to U.S. Air Force chief of staff, and requested 80,000 AR-15s. The Army reported that only the M14 was suitable for service, but Vance wondered about the impartiality of those conducting the tests. He ordered the Army inspector general to investigate the testing methods used; the inspector general confirmed that the testers were biased towards the M14.Meanwhile, the Army relented and recommended the adoption of the M16 for jungle warfare operations. However, the Army insisted on the inclusion of a forward assist to help push the bolt into battery in the event that a cartridge failed to seat into the chamber. The Air Force, Colt and Eugene Stoner believed that the addition of a forward assist was an unjustified expense. As a result, the design was split into two variants: the Air Force's M16 without the forward assist, and the XM16E1 with the forward assist for the other service branches. Therefore, Olin Mathieson Company provided a high-performance ball propellant. While the Olin WC 846 powder achieved the desired 3,300 ft (1,000 m) per second muzzle velocity, it produced much more fouling, that quickly jammed the M16s action (unless the rifle was cleaned well and often). The gas goes from the gas tube, through the bolt carrier key, and into the inside of the carrier where it expands in a donut shaped gas cylinder.

Because the bolt is prevented from moving forward by the barrel, the carrier is driven to the rear by the expanding gases and thus converts the energy of the gas to movement of the rifle's parts. The back part of the bolt forms a piston head and the cavity in the bolt carrier is the piston sleeve. However, this design requires that combustion byproducts from the discharged cartridge be blown into the receiver as well. This accumulating carbon and vaporized metal build-up within the receiver and bolt-carrier negatively affects reliability and necessitates more intensive maintenance on the part of the individual soldier. The CNA conducted surveys on 2,608 troops returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past 12 months. Only troops who had fired their weapons at enemy targets were allowed to participate. 1,188 troops were armed with M16A2 or A4 rifles, making up 46 percent of the survey. 75 percent of M16 users (891 troops) reported they were satisfied with the weapon. 60 percent (713 troops) were satisfied with handling qualities such as handguards, size, and weight. Of the 40 percent dissatisfied, most were with its size. Only 19 percent of M16 users (226 troops) reported a stoppage, while 80 percent of those that experienced a stoppage said it had little impact on their ability to clear the stoppage and re-engage their target. Half of the M16 users never experienced failures of their magazines to feed. 83 percent (986 troops) did not need their rifles repaired while in theater. 71 percent (843 troops) were confident in the M16's reliability, defined as level of soldier confidence their weapon will fire without malfunction, and 72 percent (855 troops) were confident in its durability, defined as level of soldier confidence their weapon will not break or need repair. Both factors were attributed to high levels of soldiers performing their own maintenance. 60 percent of M16 users offered recommendations for improvements.

Requests included greater bullet lethality, new-built instead of rebuilt rifles, better quality magazines, decreased weight, and a collapsible stock. While there, they questioned around 100 infantry troops about the reliability of their M16 rifles, as well as the M4 carbine. The troops did not report reliability problems with their rifles. Intense firefights lasted hours with several magazines being expended. Only one soldier reported a jam when his M16 was covered in mud after climbing out of a canal. The weapon was cleared and resumed firing with the next chambered round. The M16's receivers are made of 7075 aluminum alloy, its barrel, bolt, and bolt carrier of steel, and its handguards, pistol grip, and buttstock of plastics. The gas system, bolt carrier, and bolt-locking design were novel for the time. The thicker barrel is more resistant to damage when handled roughly and is also slower to overheat during sustained fire. The barrel profile under the handguards remained the same as the M16A1 for compatibility with the M203 grenade launcher.Because recoil does not significantly shift the point of aim, faster follow-up shots are possible and user fatigue is reduced.Note: upper receiver showing carrying handle and rear sight The rear sight can be adjusted in the field for windage. The sights can be adjusted with a bullet tip or pointed tool, as troops are trained to zero their own rifles. The sight picture is the same as the M14, M1, M1 Carbine, and the M1917 Enfield. The heavier bullet had more energy, and was made with a steel core to penetrate Soviet body armor.Unfortunately it was prone to breakage and getting entangled in vegetation. Both use the same 40 mm grenades as the older, stand-alone M79 grenade launcher. The M16 can also mount under-barrel 12 gauge shotguns such as KAC Masterkey or the M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System. The M234 mounts on the muzzle, bayonet lug, and front sight post of the M16.

It fires either the M734 64 mm Kinetic Riot Control or the M742 64 mm CSI Riot Control Ring Airfoil Projectiles. The latter produces a 4 to 5-foot tear gas cloud on impact. The main advantage to using Ring Airfoil Projectiles is that their design does not allow them be thrown back by rioters with any real effect. The M234 is no longer used by U.S. forces. It has been replaced by the M203 40 mm grenade launcher and nonlethal ammunition. The current USMC OKC-3S bayonet bears a resemblance to the Marines' iconic Ka-Bar fighting knife with serrations near the handle.By the mid 1970s, other armies were looking at M16-style weapons. The magazine chosen to become the STANAG magazine was originally designed for the U.S. M16 rifle. Many NATO member nations, but not all, subsequently developed or purchased rifles with the ability to accept this type of magazine. These 22 mm grenade types range from anti-tank rounds to simple finned tubes with a fragmentation hand grenade attached to the end. The rail was originally for scopes. However, once established, the use of the system was expanded to other accessories, such as tactical lights, laser aiming modules, night vision devices, reflex sights, foregrips, bipods, and bayonets. There was also a limited purchase of 602s, and a number of both of these rifles found their way to a number of Special Operations units then operating in South East Asia, most notably the U.S. Navy SEALs. The only major difference between the 601 and 602 is the switch from the original 1:14-inch rifling twist to the more common 1:12-inch twist. These weapons were equipped with a triangular charging handle and a bolt hold open device that lacked a raised lower engagement surface. The bolt hold open device had a slanted and serrated surface that had to be engaged with a bare thumb, index finger, or thumbnail because of the lack of this surface. The U.S. Air Force continued to use the ArmaLite AR-15 marked rifles in various configurations into the 1990s.

Bolt carriers were originally chrome plated and slick-sided, lacking forward assist notches. Later, the chrome plated carriers were dropped in favor of Army issued notched and parkerized carriers though the interior portion of the bolt carrier is still chrome-lined. The Air Force continued to operate these weapons until around 2001, at which time the Air Force converted all of its M16s to the M16A2 configuration. The M16A1 was the finalized production model in 1967 and was produced until 1982.Various other changes were made after numerous problems in the field. Cleaning kits were developed and issued while barrels with chrome-plated chambers and later fully lined bores were introduced. This rib was later extended on production M16A1s to help in preventing the magazine release from inadvertently being pressed. The hole in the bolt that accepts the cam pin was crimped inward on one side, in such a way that the cam pin may not be inserted with the bolt installed backwards, which would cause failures to eject until corrected. In addition to the new rifling, the barrel was made with a greater thickness in front of the front sight post, to resist bending in the field and to allow a longer period of sustained fire without overheating. The rest of the barrel was maintained at the original thickness to enable the M203 grenade launcher to be attached. The new handguards were also symmetrical so armories need not separate left- and right-hand spares. The handguard retention ring was tapered to make it easier to install and uninstall the handguards. A notch for the middle finger was added to the pistol grip, as well as more texture to enhance the grip. Original M16 stocks were made from fiberglass-impregnated resin; the newer stocks were engineered from DuPont Zytel glass-filled thermoset polymers.
